  5. PASSWORD HACKING: A FOREWORD
  6. ----------------------------
  7. Password hacking is one of the major parts of hacking. At one time or another,
  8. you will have to guess, either educatedly or blindly. This textfile was
  9. written as a sort of hintbook.
  10.  
  11. METHOD 1: MANIPULATION
  12. ----------------------
  13. One nice way to get someone's password is to get the person to tell you it.
  14. for example, if you're in chat, make a textfile and upload it ASCII. this
  15. will make the text come out fairly quickly, and it may appear that the system
  16. is informing the user of an error. Have it say something like:
  17.         HITBBS Error #99: User Verify Unknown
  18.         Please Enter Password:
  19. and see what the guy does!
  20. Of course, you shouldn't do this on your own account. If you are caught,
  21. you'll be in deep shit, mister. So make a fake account, and do this shit.
  22. And make sure it doesn't have something that says:
  23. CRACKHEAD: HITBBS Error #99: .. etc. etc.
  24. In other words, make sure that it doesn't print out your name as you type it
  25. in. Otherwise, unless the guy's a fool, he won't buy it, and he'll get the
  26. SysOp on you.

  28. METHOD 2: OTHER BOARDS
  29. ----------------------
  30. If you can get your hands on the user datafile for a board, and the person
  31. who's account you are trying to hack is in the datafile, then there is a 
  32. decent possibility that it is the same password. There is a better chance that
  33. the password is somewhat related. So try to get your hands on the user datafile,
  34. and hack away!

  36. METHOD 3: BLIND GUESSING
  37. ------------------------
  38. Now this is something that you must do if all else fails. It is known as
  39. the "brute-force method". Do this only if you have a lot of time and willing
  40. to make several (hundred) phone calls. And do it when you think the person
  41. will not be home or will not be calling the board.
  42. Use a password that you think is likely. Here are some hints.
  43. Likely passwords:
  44. 1) Relating to the person's real name, in some form or the other
  45.         RealName: John Doe
  46.         PossiblePW: doe, johndoe,jdoe,jd,johnd,john doe, doejohn, etc.
  47. 2) Relating to the person's handle, in some form or the other
  48.         Handle: Victim
  49.         PossiblePW: victim, vic, vict, etc.
  50. 3) A combination of the person's real name and handle, in some form or the other
  51.         RealName: John Doe
  52.         Handle: Victim
  53.         PossiblePW: johndoevictim, jdvictim, jdv, johnvictimdoe, etc.
  54. 4) A combination of the person's real name and handle, along with a friend's
  55.    real name, and maybe handle.
  56.         RealName: John Doe
  57.         Handle: Victim
  58.         Friend'sRealName: Harry Hailey
  59.         Friend'sHandle: Fuckup
  60.         PossiblePW: johndoevictimharryhaileyfucup, jdvhhf, jdvhhfup, etc.
  61. 5) A person that the victim is interested in, e.g. a boy/girlfriend, someone
  62.    he/she has an eye for, etc.
  63.         RealName: John Doe
  64.         MateHopeful: Janet Dove
  65.         PossiblePW: janet, johndoeandjanetdove, j&j, etc.
  66. 6) A combination in some form of another of the person's phone number.
  67.         RealName: John Doe
  68.         PhoneNumber: 212-555-9099
  69.         PossiblePW: 9099, 2125559099, 5559099, 212, etc.
  70. 7) Name of BBS
  71.         RealName: John Doe
  72.         BBS Name: Crappy BBS
  73.         PossiblePW: crap, crappybbs, bbscrap, etc.
  74. 8) A combination of BBS name and user name, user data, etc.
  75.         RealName: John Doe
  76.         BBS Name: Crappy BBS
  77.         PossiblePW: crapjdoe, jdoecrap, johndoeatcrappybbs jd@cbbs, etc.
  78. 9) Mother's maiden name:
  79.         Real Name: John Doe
  80.         Mother's Maiden Name: Janet Ho
  81.         PossiblePW: johndoejanetho, janetho, ho, etc.
  82. 10) InterNet Address
  83.         Real Name: John Doe
  84.         InterNet Address: j.doe@crapbbs.com
  85.         PossiblePW: j.doe@crapbbs.com, j.d@c.c, etc.
  86. 11) School Name
  87.         Real Name: John Doe
  88.         School: Faggot High School
  89.         PossiblePW: faggot, jdfaggot, jd@faggot, etc.
  90. 12) The name of someone they hate:
  91.         Real Name: John Doe
  92.         Person Hated: Des Meanie
  93.         PossiblePW: Des, Meanie, Desmeanie, etc.
  94. 13) The name of someone they hate, with a "FUCK" or "ISSHIT" or something.
  95.         (also maybe the handle)        
  96.         Real Name: John Doe
  97.         Person Hated: Des Meanie
  98.         Person Hated's Handle: Bastard
  99.         PossiblePW: Bastard, fuckbastard, fuckdesmeaniebastard, etc.
  100. 14) A place where they live.
  101.         Real Name: John Doe
  102.         Borough of Home: Brooklyn
  103.         Possible PW: Brooklyn, jd@brook, etc.
  104. 15) Combinations of the above
  105.  
  106. Now there are problems. People nowadays are now using little spaces in their
  107. dialing directories to write down passwords, so they can use random
  108. alphanumeric combinations. However, that is not that common. So if all else
  109. fails, do the above. If all else fails, just guess like a rabbit fucks and
  110. just do your best! Figure things out that you'd do for a password, think why
  111. you came up with the password. Apply that to the person. OK?

  115. If you try hacking a password, and you don't get it right... DON'T STOP!!
  116. Like, try anything, even leaving the SysOp a note saying that you forgot your
  117. password, please delete that account and start another one, y'know. Because
  118. if the real person calls and finds out that you've tried to hack, don't you
  119. think the SysOp will be notified??
